As promised, Greencastle has put in her two cents on the "living wage". She quotes the Catechism of the Catholic Church 2427: "The development of economic activity and growth in production are meant to provide for the needs of human beings." and concludes from this:
"An economic activity which is pursued without meeting that end simply is not a successful economic activity."
I would only further add that the "human beings" that CCC is referring to is not just shareholders, and not just consumers-but also the workers. I think our captains of industry forget that companies exist not just to make money, not just to provide a good or service to humanity with what they produce, but also to provide for the needs of their workers through employment.
Good analysis.

Chickens could arrive today or tommorrow and I think we will be ready. A lot of hard work has been put in in revamping and repairing our chicken pens and houses. I am proud of the way the boys have worked hard and taken responsibility in doing their part. From my youngest who simply followed me around and was on hand at every moment with the proper screw or tool (or glass of water), to the oldest who basically put up the new fence without my assistance (but with assistance from his brothers), and everything in between, they did a great job. One of the boys commented that the chickens, "with a fine tin roof and real wooden floors below" (If I were a Rich Man-Fiddler on the Roof), are going to live better than us. (Maybe, but a much shorter and less fulfilling existence to be sure.)
And finally, our pastor should have arrived back here from Ireland sometime last evening. Welcome home Fr. John!
Oremus pro invicem!
