Winter work

We are about 1/2 way to a secure and warm 2018-2019 winter. Here is some of our work from today. (Yes, we usually use a chainsaw - I highly recommend the Echo CS440 which I have used for 14 years, but this tree got stuck and needed a little axe work.)

We are fortunate to have neighbors who always seem to have some hardwoods they want taken away. We have felled over a dozen trees of various sizes since the first week in January.

Jim here we use about 12 cords of wood a winter. All hard wood. We heat the house and all of our hot water for showers and wash and dishes is also heated from wood. So we have NO power bill associated with heating the house or water.... we also are off grid so No power bill at all!
Our wood stove has a 2" coil in it and a tank, from there the water goes to a tank that sits on top of the wood stove and the flue goes through the center of the tank. This extracts the remaining heat in the smoke that is going out of the chimney. From this tank it thermo siphons to the second floor where we have a storage tank. Out of this tank comes our shower and laundry water, and water for heating the house using a PEX radiant heat loop. Pex is Cheap here. The Storage tank was expensive since it is stainless steel and large. The storage tank does not heat it only stores water.
Our wood stove which has a fire box 1/4 the size of yours, heats our whole house easily with the radiant heat. It will make steam in 30 min. Of course we have 2 PPR valves for safety.
For us here this is the most economical way to heat our house as our wood is almost free.
You should go see my video on the system on my YouTube Channel and you will save a lot of money. Hope this helps and tell Lori and the Kids we said Hello:)
