Picked this tool up at a yard sale in early November. What you can't see in the picture is the tip of the tool which has a notch or recess, much like the notch on a regular screw into which you would insert a flathead screw driver.
Obviously, I would think this tool is made to tighten or loosen (or simply turn) something fitting that notch-but what?
Oremus pro invicem!
It makes me think of old school wool rug hooks and such. LOL.
ReplyDeleteOf course, its probably something much more mundane, like the early version of a screwdriver with a bendable head--make sense? Of course, you've probably already tried that....perhaps it was used to tighten some ridiculously misplaced screw, on a common enough item to make it need a regular tool...I don't know...
Yep, mystery tool it is!
LOL
An awl (sp? - owl?)...?
ReplyDeleteWell, close anyway.
ReplyDeleteIt's a screwdriverdriver. It's for driving screwdrivers.
ReplyDeleteBeing in the south I would be it was used for adjusting a loom, like the kind found in a Mill. I never worked in a mill (one of the few jobs I did not do), but I bet this was its use.

Well I don't have a loom, but at 10 cents, I am not complaining. I'll bet it'll come in useful on an odd job someday. As I heard on an Andy Griffith show one day, "Don't know what it is, but I've always wanted to own one!"
